Long Story, (not so) Short
Creating these collections of art has been a full circle moment for me (Or a midlife crisis, if you ask my husband). After graduating with a degree in Interior Design, with a concentration in Art from Appalachian State University, I worked as a residential Interior Designer specializing in hand drawn renderings for client presentations. I stepped away from my career to focus on raising our kids in 2012.
During that time, I discovered my love for painting with watercolor and designing wedding stationery. I loved the creative process of designing wedding invitations and incorporating personal details about a couple in their designs. I also fell in love with letterpress, and acquired an antique Chandler and Price platen press from 1911. Learning how to use this 1500 pound machine, powered by foot treadle, was a test of patience and determination. But in the end it was what I loved most about creating stationery.
I began to feel like I was missing an opportunity to bring this type of art to a new audience. Why should people getting married be the only ones enjoying the beauty of art literally etched into paper? Unless you’re getting married or being invited to a luxury wedding, you might never know what it feels like to hold something so stunning… to twist it in the light and watch the shadows move across the indentations in the paper.
So, I combined all of my artistic talents and passions together to create original pieces that bring the beauty of watercolor, handmade paper, hand poured wax and letterpress to everyone destined to appreciate it the way I do.
I hope you see something you love here, and follow along on Instagram as I share the creative process behind my art.
