This custom silhouette created from your photo is letterpressed into pillowy cotton paper using a 115 year old platen letterpress, powered by foot treadle in my home studio. It is then pressed into a hand poured wax seal and layered on top of handmade, deckled edge paper that has been letterpressed with a hand sketched scalloped frame design. It is a perfect gift for a new parent, a grandparent, Mother’s Day gift, or for anyone who appreciates the timeless look of a classic silhouette, with a unique and updated twist.

You may select your letterpress ink color for the silhouette and the background, and the color of your wax seal. Options can be seen in the photos.

Each wax seal is hand poured using hot wax. Characteristics such as an organic shape, bubbles or drips of wax are essential to its charm and not to be considered flaws or defects. This is also true of the nature of handmade paper, where decked edges, uneven shapes, and a variety of surface textures add to its beauty.

Handmade paper is not mass produced, it is created by various artisans in small batches. Because of this, I purchase the handmade paper I use from several different vendors depending on availability. I try my best to source paper that is consistent in appearance, but slight variations may occur. If you are ordering multiple silhouettes that will be grouped together when framed, please let me know and I will be sure to use the same paper stock with each press run.
